Hard Luck Hounds

Molly

Molly is the new queen of belly rubs! Stop down at the Town Lake Center to visit her and soak up the affection this sweet girl wants to give you – especially if you rub her tummy.

Major

Major is a major character – a big, happy, affectionate dog who really needs someone who will show him the love he deserves and work with him to teach him how to control his exuberance and energy.

Judy

Judy loves playing fetch more than anything else in the world…so throw the ball already!

Joey

Pocket Pittie Joey is a lovable goofball who always looks kind of grumpy (blame it on the underbite) even though he’s such a happy boy! Joey was pretty stressed out at AAC and was having a very hard time adjusting to shelter life but he has demonstrated wonderful house manners in his foster home.

Kai

Kai came to us with broken neck, had neck surgery, and spent a few months recovering. Today, he’s a very affectionate and enthusiastic boy who needs a little work on his manners. He’s really smart, trainable, treat-motivated, and tons of fun – a great dog for someone with an active lifestyle.

Lupe

Lupe is a fun and affectionate dog who would be ideal for a runner or someone with an active, athletic lifestyle.

Ginger

Ginger is fun, eager, enthusiastic, and affectionate. She has excellent manners and sits politely and is calm when meeting new people. She’s a model dog in the house and in the yard. She likes her crate and loves car rides. She’s not always a model dog around other pets and she needs training on leash

PollyDoodle

The Doodle has had a rough time of it, but she’s good on the leash, loves people, and gets along with most other dogs. She did very well on an overnight with one of our volunteers and is a volunteer favorite. She would do well with an experienced owner who uses positive reinforcement training methods.

Milenko

This gentle giant is one friendly and loving boy who enjoys humans as well as friendly dogs if introduced properly. He is quite athletic and loves to play fetch and chase after balls, but he is also game for a nice long walk. Even though he knows all his basic commands, Milenko has been attending

Donate

Help us save the last 10% – your donations fund training and medical care for the longest-stay dogs at the shelter, and allow us to provide adopters with crates, wellness exams, vouchers for training and medical care, spay/neuter, and other needed services to the wonderful people who take Hard Luck Hounds home.

HLH of the Week – Rodney

Rodney is our Comeback Kid – he’s survived it all and deserves a sweet ride from now. He was originally adopted from us in March of 2012. We were shocked and saddened when he showed back up at the shelter right after the New Year, looking bruised, battered, and starved. We contacted his former owner,

Friends of AAC

Friends of Austin Animal Center is the 501(c)(3) non-profit that sponsors Hard Luck Hounds. Founded in 2006 as Friends of Town Lake Animal Center, Friends is dedicated to improving the quality of life for animals both inside and outside the shelter through community awareness, education, and mental and physical wellness programs.

Dudley

It’s hard to imagine a dog like Dudley, with a heart of gold and a zest for life, not to mention his BIG infectious smile, could be stuck for so long (4+ months) at the shelter and was almost destined for euthanasia multiple times. If not for Hard Luck Hounds (HLH) giving him a chance

Mimi

MIMI SPENT 8 MONTHS AT THE SHELTER, AND WAS NEVER IN A BAD MOOD. KEEP MAKING PEOPLE SMILE, MIMI!!!

Lola (Blackberry)

Here is a picture of Lola with her brother (Jax) and sister (Chloe). Lola and Jax love playing chase and running around the yard together. Lola started a Nose Work class last weekend and is doing great!

King

Just wanted to send you a quick email to let ya’ll know King has opened up so very much already. We can tell he really loves it here at his new home. He got a good bath, we went on a walk/run, played fetch for awhile with the kids.

Blanca – Adopted December 30, 2011

“Just wanted to let you know that we did adopt Blanca — the same day you introduced us to her! We had planned to bring my husband back Saturday to meet her but just couldn’t wait. She has been an absolute delight. She is very obviously crate and housetrained. In fact,
