Long underfunded and understaffed, the city’s animal shelter depends on volunteers to walk, socialize, and dote on the dogs under its care. These volunteers and the shelter need all the help they can get from the community to help maintain Austin’s status at the largest no-kill shelter in the United States. Please contribute generously to help the volunteers, the shelter and, most importantly, the animals. Friends of AAC is a non-profit, all-volunteer organization with no salaries and no facilities, so virtually every penny you give goes to help a shelter animal.

Friends of Austin Animal Center is the non-profit associated with the Austin Animal Center (AAC). Our fundraising activities are undertaken in support of projects and programs requested by AAC staff. Donating to Friends of AAC instead of directly to the shelter helps AAC because we have more flexibility in how the funds are spent, are not subject to city bureaucracy, and can ensure that the money gets spent on AAC needs and in accordance with donor wishes.

AAC has also launched The Shade Project, an initiative to raise money via real estate for the installation of shade canopies at critical locations around the shelter.
